Fortunately, the wind was blowing in the opposite direction, so there wasn't any smoke where we were standing. The kids just looked on in amazement...and in between shots, I talked to them about fires and how much damage they can do. I told them how brave those fireman are to fight fires. We also said a few prayers for the workers, the owners of the pizza shop & for the people who lived in the apartments that were on fire. As we sat there & watched, an ambulance worker stopped and said hello to the kids and asked them what they thought. She left & returned shortly with a little stuffed animal for each of the kids. They really liked that & I thought that was an awesome gesture to go out of her way to show our children kindness even when there were sad things happening.
The kids watching from the jogger & strangely, Makenzie was very quiet...taking it all in.
